Inspired by the record setting efforts of batters Hugo Burdon and Stephan Muller, the Gold Coast Dolphins completed their dominance of the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket Final with victory over Northern Suburbs.
Dolphins Reign Supreme
The Dolphins thwarted Norths' hopes of a hat-trick of Cam Battersby Cup wns, clinching the Gold Coast's first two-day premiership since 2009-10.
The mighty efforts of triple-century maker Burdon and double-ton scorer Muller on the first weekend were enough to ensure the second weekend started with the Gold Coast in the box seat.
Norths were reeling ay 8-84, before dogged knocks from Kendel Fleming (38) and Sam Neale (30) lifted the Vikings to 158, ensuring a first innings win by 472 runs for Gold Coast.
Wickets were shared by the Gold Coast attack, with new ball bowler Sam Chapman snaring 3-32 with two wickets each to Zac McDermott, Callum Taylor and Hayden Kerr.
Gold Coast batted again, with Ashton Gumm (46no) getting on the board for the match after being one of two first innings ducks before Burdon and Muller turned the game on its head.
Other men's premierships in the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition were claimed across the second weekend in the lower grades.
In Second Grade, Western Suburbs (240 & 346) defeated neighbours University of Queensland (227 & 178), with a highlight being pace bowler Joey Fry's 10-wicket haul (5-53, 5-61) and Michael Neumann's 109 for the Bulldogs.
In Thrd Grade, Wynnum-Manly added the two-day title to their one-day trophy earlier in the season, defeating University of Queensland in a competitive clash. Led by former Wellington (NZ) first class paceman Dane Hutchison, the Sea Eagles scored 217 and 251 and restricted UQ to 204 and 167. Preston Wells' second innings knock of 111 was a highlight for Wynnum.
In Fourth Grade, South Brisbane were victorious, overcoming Wynnum-Manly by 108 runs. The Magpies scored 223 and 119, holding off the Sea Eagles (115 and 165).
In Fifth Grade, a remarkable effort from Wynnum-Manly's left-arm seamer Harenderpal Singh swept the Sea Eagles to another premiership, as he claimed 7-36 off 28 overs at an economy of 1.28 in the decider against Northern Suburbs. Wynnum-Manly (155 & 153) rode to victory off Harendepal's second innings effort as the Vikings were dismissed for 114 aftyer being bowled out for 116 in their first innings. Harenderpaul finished with 11 wickets for the match. Andrew Campbell also claimed 5-30 for Norths.
In Sixth Grade, Wynnum-Manly added to their lower grade dominance with a hard-fought win over South Brisbane. Despite Aiden Graham taking 5-27 for Souths, Wynnum made 227 courtesy of a defiant 74 from Scott Barbour before the Sea Eagles restricted Souths to 156. Wynnum were set back in their second innings, dismissed for 136 to leave the door open for the Magpies.
But a fine effort from veteran left-armer Mark Musk (3-32) and sustained fielding pressure saw Souths dismissed for 111 to present the premiership win to the Sea Eagles by 71 runs.
