Queensland Cricket has named its State male and female Indigenous representative squads for next week’s National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) in Mackay.
Maroons Set For NICC Titles
The Championships will be held for the second time on Yuwibara country, with matches staged at Great Barrier Reef Arena and Harrup Park.
Queensland's squads come after the State delivered its strongest collective performance at a National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) last year, which saw the men's team claim the national title while the women's side finished runner-up to first-time winners WA.
The Queensland men’s team will be led by Valley wicket-keeper Dylan McLachlan, who has played for the Queensland Bulls and Queensland Second XI in recent seasons.
It was McLachlan’s cool and composed batting in last season’s Final that netted Queensland the title in a fiercely competitive clash with keen rivals NSW.
The Queensland women’s team will look to Australian Indigenous captain Christina Coulson and left-arm spinner Clodagh Ryall who played for the WBBL Brisbane Heat in the T20 Spring Challenge earlier this year and was part of the extended squad for the Queensland Fire in their WNCL championship campaign.
Valley allrounder Grace Abdy, who was also an Australian Indigenous representative during the season, captured headlines during the KFC T20 Max competition, with a record-breaking spell of 6/6 (including a hat-trick) against Ipswich.
The squads will be coached by former Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rep players Brad Stout (women) and Michael Prien and Barry Wearne (men).
