NICC Showcases Yuwi Country

Queensland might have finished out of the finals in this year's 2026 National Indigenous Cricket Championships but the outstanding reception for the second season in a row has showcased Mackay's status on the national stage.

The Queensland men's team was unable to defend the title it won last season while the Queensland women's team was again competitive throughout.

WA won the men's title while Victoria claimed the women's title.

Great Barrier Reef Arena at Harrup Park hosted the Finals as well as several round games as it gears up for its proudest moment later this year when the venue will host its inaugural Test match when Australia takes on Bangladesh in August.

All teams and players were able to enjoy a cultural showcase day during the titles, as Elders and members of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community shared their stories and cultural insights from Yuwibara country.

The titles featured PNG Barramundis playing in the men's competition as part of their international development, bringing a new element to the championships.

Allrounder Christina Coulson topped the Queensland women's aggregate with 165 runs at 55 as well as taking four wickets, while Darcy Graham hit 123 runs for the men.

With the ball, Norths paceman Jacob Turner took eight wickets.
