QC Is "All In" For Reconciliation

Queensland Cricket has this week unveiled several initiatives to drive awareness and participation in Indigenous cricket over the next 12 months.

The plans have been outlined during National Reconciliation Week which runs until next Wednesday June 3, with Queensland Cricket endorsing this year’s theme of ‘All In” for Reconciliation.

Queensland Cricket continues to work towards strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

With the support of the Queensland Cricket Foundation, QC staff will be involved in a major cricket outreach program to Cape York and Far North Queensland in July.

The trip’s focus will be on delivering introductory Woolworths Cricket Blast programs through the Eddie Gilbert Program as well as upskilling local volunteers in the Weipa area.

The outreach program will be conducted from 2 July to 27 July and be based out of Weipa initially.

Other regional centres and communities which will be visited include Thursday Island, Musgrave, Napranum, Aurukun and Evans Landing.

It will be the second Cape York visit by Queensland Cricket following a successful launch in 2024.

The Queensland Indigenous Cricket Advisory Committee recently approved the 12-month plan, which will stretch through until the 2027 National Reconciliation Week.

Included in the plan are coaching and development initiatives, including talent ID, as well as training and playing opportunities through community tournaments and representative fixture.

The playing development opportunities for Queensland Indigenous players will culminate in the 2027 National Indigenous Cricket Championships in Yuwibara/Mackay.

Queensland missed out on the Finals in both male and female competitions this year after winning a men’s and women’s trophy over the past three years.

The women’s tournament marked the retirement of Queensland and Australian captain Christina Coulson, with the Kaurareg woman keen to move into the coaching ranks after an outstanding playing career.

The Queensland Cricket Foundation will support several of the initiatives under its pillar to enhance Indigenous health and well-being, including support for community cricket events such as the Stan Alberts Shield in Rockhampton and the Southwest Indigenous Network’s Western Rivers Cup senior and junior tournaments in Toowoomba.
