Resident Queenslanders Lucy Hamilton, Georgia Voll, Beth Mooney and Grace Harris have strongly contributed to the Australian women’s side’s eighth T20 World Cup finals appearance. World Cup Final Looms For Maroons
With six titles already under Australia’s belt, the quartet will be looking to add another trophy to the cabinet when they take on host nation England on Monday morning (AEST) in the battle of the unbeaten teams.
Left armer, Hamilton, has only played 8 matches for Australia but has shown a high level of maturity with the ball.
On her World Cup debut vs Netherlands, the 20-year-old took 0/13 off 4 overs at the Rose Bowl. Across the tournament, Hamilton has maintained an economy rate of just 4.61.
The youngster has been called up to the Australian side in all three formats after strong performances for the Brisbane Heat and Queensland Fire across multiple seasons.
Opening batter, Georgia Voll has shown up for Australia both with the bat and in the field. Smashing a tournament high score of 45* (32) vs Bangladesh, the 22-year-old has been complementing her teammates nicely.
Growing up in Toowoomba, the Darling Downs product has been part of Queensland’s professional set up for six seasons, and the Australian side for the past two years.
With 18 T20Is to her name, the opener has struck 595 runs at an average of 35 and strike rate of 152.
With strong performances across domestic cricket, Grace Harris has once again earned a place touring with the world’s most decorated international side. Although Harris has not taken the field during this tournament, the explosive batter is sure to be starring again for Queensland this season.
Former Maroon Beth Mooney has been her reliable self at the top of the order, as well as taking on the full-time wicket-keeping role in the wake of Alyssa Healy’s retirement.
Mooney, whose 61 from 35 balls set up the semi-final win over the West Indies, has been a member of three Australian World T20 Cup championship teams.
Following the World Cup, the three Queensland Fire squad members are set to make an impact in Queensland’s KFC T20 Max tournament next month.
Hamilton (Sunshine Coast), Voll (Sandgate-Redcliffe), and Harris (Western Suburbs) are sure to be in form to lead their respective premier club sides.
