Queenslanders Hugh Weibgen, Jack Sinfield and Steven Hogan will add valuable experience to their promising playing credentials next month as part of an emerging Australian squad for the MRF Academy Program in Chennai.
Indian Experience For Trio
The maroon trio were named today as part of Cricket Australia's national development pathway, which will have a strong focus this year in building confidence and playing expertise in sub-continental conditions.
The Australian men's development squad will travel to Chennai from 1–13 August to participate in the 2026 MRF Academy Program. The program will feature two multi-day matches, scheduled for 5–6 August and 10–11 August on extremely spin friendly pitches.
Hogan, a Queensland rookie contracted player for the first time this season, has previously played in India as part of the Australian Under-19 program and scored a youth ODI century in 2024.
Off-spinner Sinfield has played first class and List A cricket for Queensland while former Australian Under-19 captain Weibgen scored a List A century for the Bulls last summer in just his second Domestic One Day Cup game when he led Queensland to a thrilling win over Western Australia at Allan Border Field.
Australia 'A' will tour India for the second season in a row in September, as will an Australia 'A' women's squad and the Australian Under-19 male and females squads as Cricket Australia emphasises the development of players who are comfortable and confident in playing matches in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal in the future.
