The Queensland Government has released the draft masterplan for Victoria Park and the Brisbane Stadium 2032 Olympics and Paralympics project.
Victoria Park Masterplan Unveiled
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson and Queensland Bulls captain Marnus Labuschagne attended the announcement of the draft Masterplan yesterday, with public comments now invited during the consultation period that runs through to 27 September.
Svenson welcomed the launch of the masterplan, that will help shape the State Government's delivery of the Stadium for the 2032 Games and beyond when Cricket and AFL will move to the venue as their main playing arena.
"We are pleased to see this next milestone reached for the creation of the Brisbane Stadium and are excited by the potential that it will bring,'' he said.
"It will be a world class precinct and we are confident it will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for fans inside and outside of the stadium. Knowing that fans can get in and out of the stadium safely after a big game will certainly be welcomed."
Premier David Crisafulli told media yesterday that he was excited by the legacy the Brisbane Stadium would leave for Queenslanders and repeated his Government's desire to secure the First Test of every summer in Brisbane.
Svenson said Queensland Cricket backed the Government's bid for an extended hosting commitment for the First Test.
"We're fully supportive of the Government's intention to retain the first Test for Brisbane, returning it to the Gabba, and then to the new Stadium,'' he said.
