Queensland Cricket and the Brisbane Heat are proud to support Queensland Road Safety Week 2026 as they join the push to encourage safer driving and reduce the number of lives lost on our roads.
QC Backs Road Safety Week
Last year, 306 people lost their lives and thousands more were seriously injured on Queensland roads.
Queensland Bulls, Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat players will promote safe driving messaging this week, and throughout the month of August, as part of Queensland Cricket’s Play Cricket Month promotions.
With the support of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Play Cricket Month includes the StreetSmarts Regional Tour with player appearances and community events in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast.
Queensland Bulls captain Marnus Labuschagne is one of the players backing Queensland Road Safety Week, sharing messages that will be unveiled on social media channels this week.
“We might be competitors on the field, but we’re one team on the roads, so let’s drive like it,’’ Labuschagne said. “Whenever you’re behind the wheel, please drive safely, stay alert and look out for each other.”
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Queensland Cricket partnership helps to promote road safety across Queensland.
“Saving lives on Queensland roads is a team effort, and our partnerships with organisations like Queensland Cricket help to spread the importance of road safety to communities far and wide,” Minister Mickelberg said.
“We want to make sure that families and cricket fans take care every time they use the roads, whether they are a driver, passenger, bike rider or pedestrian. It’s never too early to establish good road safety habits.
“Queensland Road Safety Week starts today, and we are encouraging all Queenslanders to drive like one team. That means the values demonstrated through cricket, like teamwork, respect and responsibility, translate to the roads too.
“I thank Queensland Cricket for their ongoing support of road safety and the opportunity to connect with regional Queenslanders through the regional tour.”
Play Cricket month has so far seen Bulls, Fire, WBBL Heat and Brisbane Heat BBL players in action at various locations, and Queensland Cricket community staff hosting events at locations throughout Queensland.
The StreetSmarts regional tour events will include Come and Try Woolworth Blast sessions, Schools Cup, club sign-ons and Smash Series cricket events.
