A career highest score by Queensland Fire captain Georgia Redmayne has swept her side to a compelling victory over NSW today at Cricket Central in Sydney.
Redmayne Return Brings Big Win
Queensland's 111-run win over NSW added a bonus point to a result which balanced out their heavy loss to the Breakers on Tuesday when the Fire, missing their talismanic opener and wiicket-keeper due to injury, were well beaten in the season opener.
Redmayne underpinned a strong Queensland batting effort, finishing with her best score to date of 139 as the reigning WNCL champions piled on 4-285 against their hosts. She had excellent support from Jess Jonassen (66) and Grace Harris (33) as the Fiire kept their run-rate well above five for most of the innings.
It was also back-to-back hundreds for Redmayne at Cricket Central, with her century in the Final playing a major role in her team winning the Ruth Preddy Cup for the second time in the State's history.
It was also a stand-out day for Queensland's up and coming players, with second-gamer Catherine White taking her first three wickets in her career on the way to 3-44 from eight overs and fellow quick Lilly Bassingthwaighte (2-29) bowling the dangerous Phoebe Litchfield for a duck with the first ball of the NSW chase.
Not to be outdone, teenage leg-spinner Aya Stafford added 2-34 to her debut effort of 4-25 on Tuesday, including the wicket of Australian legend Elysse Perry for the second time in as many outings, as well as snaring a fine diving catch.
The Fire's win, with Redmayne named player of the match, gives them a sound start to their WNCL campaign that will now go into hiatus until after the Spring Challenge and Weber Women's Big Bash League.
They will resume in January when they host ACT on January 4 and 6 at Allan Border Field.
