T20 Max Preview - Redlands

Back on the Bayside and it is time to check out a star-studded Redlands Tigers squad that boasts match-winners galore. CAM VELLACOTT likes what he sees coming out of the Tigers' Den at Redlands.

Coach: Nick Hurford
Captain: Leigh Drennan

Home Ground: Peter Burge Oval

Last season’s Two-Day Premiers return to the T20 Max with star power throughout their roster. While last season’s find of the tournament Spencer Johnson is unavailable to due Australian T20 duty, the Tigers have managed some more than handy replacements.

One of Australia’s best ever domestic white ball cricketers D’Arcy Short will call Tigerland home for the competition. Short’s cricket resume speaks for itself; 2018 Big Bash player of the year, Australian ODI player #177, Australian T20 player #90, third highest One Day score ever worldwide (257).

Sydney Sixer and Tasmanian player Jordan Silk also joins Redlands this season. Silk, often referred to as the best fielder in Australia, has become a household BBL name in recent years. Originally noted for outrageous fielding efforts, Silk has cemented his image as a tremendous middle order player with excellent game winning abilities. Fellow Sydney Sixer and Tasmanian fast bowler Lawrence Neil-Smith also joins Redlands this KFC T20 Max and will be hoping his fortunes emulate that of Johnson.

Heat and Bulls off spinning sensation Jack Sinfield will be partnered with South Australian leg spinner Lloyd Pope. With both players building their playing experience, Redlands will be looking for both players to dominate the middle overs.

Another Big Bash star in Jimmy Pierson will offer must watch viewing for fans of all clubs. One of the form players of Australian cricket last season (and the last few seasons), Pierson’s addition will certainly be welcome as always for Redlands!

If they can stay fit, expect this side to make a serious challenge for the title.

Players to watch – Sam Heazlett - After losing his state contract at the end of last season, expect Sam Heazlett to bounce back in a big way. Plagued by injury throughout last year, he was never able to reach his best form. There’s no better opportunity than the KFC T20 Max to show his class.

Players to watch – James Bazley –  With his ability to impact the game in all three facets, Bazley will again be at the forefront of the Tigers side. Emerging as one of the Heat’s most influential players last season, Bazley should be full of confidence and ready to take on the competition.
