Queensland Cricket has today recommended that cricket clubs and associations in areas that will be affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred prioritise safely securing their cricket venues.
CYCLONE ALFRED UPDATE | Cricket Events To Be Cancelled
All competitions administered by Queensland Cricket in the areas covered by the Tropical Cyclone Warning will not be played this weekend and based on Government advice, pitches should not be covered.
“It is strongly recommended that club and association officials, employees and volunteers safely secure covers and equipment prior to the expected cyclone event,’’ Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said.
“The advice not to cover pitches is for safety reasons – both for residents and housing around venues and for club officials and volunteers.”
“After consulting with our Premier Cricket clubs and affiliates, all cricket competitions administered by Queensland Cricket in the affected areas will be cancelled to ensure the safety of all participants - including Premier Grade Cricket.
“Queensland Cricket also strongly recommends all other cricket competitions both seniors and juniors be cancelled in the warning zone areas and that all cricket venues safely secure their immediate surrounds.”
“All of us here at Queensland Cricket are thinking about everyone in the affected areas during this time,” Svenson said.
Allan Border Field, the National Cricket Centre and the Queensland Cricket Curatorial Program will be closed from today.
The affected Local Government areas identified as being potentially affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred are:
- Gympie Regional
- Sunshine Coast
- Moreton Bay
- Brisbane
- Redlands
- Logan City
- Ipswich
