Brown Goes Big Again

The bludgeoning opener further etched his name in the record books of stellar QLD Premier Cricket T20 performances, as Friday’s innings of 159 off 59 balls would see him take second spot as the highest individual score, leapfrogging Chris Lynn’s knock of 154 in 2020-21.

His latest innings would also make it his fourth career hundred in QLD Premier Cricket First Grade T20 competitions, tying him with record holders Lynn from his Toombul days.

Earlier the visiting Ipswich won the bat flip and sent hosts Northern Suburbs into bat first under the Friday night lights.

It was a measured start from both sides after two overs (0/12), but it was from this point that Vikings Josh Brown went into another gear as white Kookaburra balls were deposited into training nets, onto clubhouse roofs, adjoining fields and over beach volleyball courts.

No Ipswich bowlers were exempt from the carnage, as Brown dominated the strike, scoring at will as he hit 6 x 4s and a whopping 17 x 6s throughout Ian Healy Oval.

He brought up his 50 in 17 balls, 100 in 37 balls and 150 in 53 balls, all with sixes as Northern Suburbs reached the impressive total of 4-241.

In reply the Ipswich Hornets got out of the gates quickly in the powerplay, as openers Jake Lehmann (51 off 35 balls) and Jake Cross (40 off 21 balls) took the score to 0/53 in the fifth over.

But the introduction of KFC T20 Max leading wicket-taker Scott Rodgie would change the momentum of the innings, as the two-time Bill O’Reilly Medal winner from Sydney Premier Cricket would pick up the wickets of both Ipswich openers on the way to figures of 3/10 as Northern Suburbs took control.

Nathan McSweeney continued his good run with the ball claiming 2/28, as Queensland’s Connor Sully (2/26) and legspinner Nikhil Chaudhary (2/23) chimed in with wickets as Ipswich were dismissed for 132.

The dominant victory would see Northern Suburbs claim their fourth victory in a row, getting their second weekend of the KFC T20 Max off to a perfect start.

Across the weekend, KFC T20 Max action will continue on Saturday and Sunday as all clubs fight for Top-4 positions and a shot at Semi Finals next weekend.

There will be plenty of action out at Northern Suburbs fields, with doubleheaders during the day and another night fixture on Ian Healy Oval as in-from South Brisbane take on the ladder-leading Western Suburbs at 6.30pm.

South Brisbane will have the firepower of skipper Gurinder Sandhu and Sydney Thunder’s Ben Cutting, with Western Suburbs bringing their star-studded lineup with the likes of Bulls Sam Truloff and Blake Edwards as well as interstate BBL interstate recruits Arjun Nair and Chris Sabburg.
