Since its advent in 2022, the KFC T20 Max has delivered an ideal T20 pathway, attracting male and female players from overseas and interstate and strengthening KFC Queensland Premier Cricket club line-ups.

As well as inspiring a reinvigorated Premier Cricket Competition, the competition has provided a productive launching pad for aspiring T20 cricketers to showcase their talent and catch the attention of W/BBL teams.

The tournament has previously featured contracted players from Queensland and across Australia, including Usman Khawaja, Jess Jonassen, Mitch Owen, Marnus Labuschagne, Jake Weatherald and Elyse Villani.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the KFC T20 Max continued to provide players with a highly visible proving ground for Big Bash clubs to factor into their recruiting and development strategies.

“It has been a fantastic initiative for the Queensland Premier clubs and their players, but the competition’s greatest impact has been providing a platform for emerging T20 talent,’’ he said.

“At last count, there have been more than a dozen players secure starts with Big Bash teams and we fully anticipate there will be more to come across the coming summer,’’ he said.

Svenson nominated the success stories of the likes of Spencer Johnson, Josh Brown, Nathan McSweeney, Lloyd Pope, Paddy Dooley, Emma de Broughe and Nikhil Chaudhary who have secured W/BBL and other T20 league deals off the back of standout performances in the KFC T20 Max.

The Brisbane Heat will look to performances in the KFC T20 Max for their remaining contract spots on their BBL|15 list while selections in the WBBL Heat squad that will play in the developmental T20 Spring Challenge series will also be drawn from the competition.

Premier clubs will announce their playing squads shortly.
